Contact Improvisation
"The body speaks, and in Contact Improvisation, it has the chance to tell the truth."
Contact Improvisation is a form of dance that explores both solo movement and connection between two or more bodies through shared space, touch, weight exchange, and spontaneous movement. Rooted in improvisation, it invites dancers to engage in a constantly evolving dialogue where consent, trust and presence are essential. Rather than adhering to set choreography or steps, the dance emerges from the immediate experience, responding to each other's movements, sensations, and the forces of gravity. It is a celebration of freedom, connection, and the beauty of the present moment.

"Echoes of Flights - Whispers of the Sky"
"You don't have to be good at dancing.
You just have to be good at being alive."

Some key aspects that make Contact Improvisation special include:
Presence
The heart of Contact Improvisation is being fully present in the moment, surrendering to the now, and allowing the dance to unfold naturally, with each breath and movement.Consent
Consent is central to the practice of CI. Clear, embodied agreements create a safe container for exploration. Dancers respect and negotiate boundaries, empathizing with each other’s limits and fostering a space where mutual respect guides the dance.Connection
CI is about deep, embodied connection, not just between bodies, but with the space, gravity, and each other—creating a shared experience of trust, understanding, and mutual respect.Trust
Trust is the foundation. Trust in your partner, in yourself, and in the unknown possibilities that each new movement holds. It’s a quiet belief that the dance will evolve safely and beautifully.Spontaneity
Movement in Contact Improvisation is unplanned, free from choreography. It emerges organically, shaped by the dancers' reactions, intuition, and the flow of the moment, unfolding without expectation.Technique
While Contact Improvisation emphasizes spontaneity, technique grounds the movement. Mastery of body alignment, balance, and the principles of movement allows for a deeper, more intuitive engagement with the flow of the dance.Vulnerability
To dance CI is to embrace vulnerability, to be open to the unexpected, and to explore the fragile beauty of being human, both physically and emotionally, in the presence of others.Weight Exchange
A core principle of CI is the exchange of weight. It’s a dance of give and take, where bodies become instruments of support, challenge, and mutual reliance, creating balance and flow.Listening
Listening goes beyond the ears. In CI, we listen with our entire being—attuning to the subtle shifts of touch, breath, and intention in our partner. The dance is shaped by this ongoing awareness.Pause
Pause is a part of the dance. Silence and stillness are vital to it. The pause allows dancers to integrate, reflect, and discover new pathways forward. It creates a space for respecting boundaries and sensing what is needed, fostering empathy and deep understanding.
